Love the Skin You're In
I've always wondered why the beauty section of magazines only focused on skin tips and tricks for the neck up, what about the rest of your body? For that, you flip to the fitness section. You'll find that throughout Beautifueled, I focus on redefining beauty as something that starts from within and draws a lot from the confidence that you exude. We live in a youth-obsessed society and the lovely Betty White put it best when she said: "So many of us start dreading age when we're in high school. And I think that's really a waste of a lovely life."
As you'll read in the Fueled for Food section, after genetics, the single biggest contributor to your skin's condition is what foods you're putting into your body. Read the full post on Eating for Healthier Skin here. Avoiding smoking and sun exposure are also big contributors--lather on that SPF, even when you're not hitting the beach. Your skin health should be just as much of a priority as your overall health, so be sure you're visiting a dermatologist on a yearly basis. When you're skin is healthy, people will notice and you'll walk out the door with more confidence. My beauty philosophy: Beautiful skin begins with exceptional skin care--this includes how you care for your skin from within, it's not just about creams and serums.
Love the Body You're In
Your skin isn't just about your face, it includes your entire body. I'm not going to get too much into fitness tips here (more on that later!) but I have to share my favorite non-profit, the Movemeant Foundation, which empowers young women and girls to "love the body you're in." The foundation believes that every body is meant to move and that through movement, we can enable women and girls to find self-confidence, self-esteem and positive body image that leads to physical, emotional and mental well being for the rest of her life. Their campaign reminds me of the Dove "Real Beauty" campaign in 2004, which aimed "to make more women feel beautiful every day by widening stereotypical views of beauty." We need more of this positive messaging and I admire these companies for taking a stand to make a difference in redefining beauty and rebuilding self-confidence.
