Protect Your Skin From The Inside Out

I'm heading home to Washington this weekend and I've got sun, BBQs and relaxation on the mind. We're actually on our way to the airport, so this blog is brief! I also plan to consume as much watermelon as possible. Watermelon is one of my favorite fruits and since you can't get the juicy sweetness year round, I cherish every bite. To my pleasure, I've discovered that watermelon also has quite a few skin and health benefits.

More Than Just Water

Watermelons are mostly water — about 92 percent — but this refreshing fruit is soaked with nutrients. Each juicy bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There's even a modest amount of potassium. All those antioxidants are great for your immune system and will also help give your skin a healthier glow. Check out these 25 Health Benefits of Watermelon (#13 is impressive).

Fun Fact: Watermelon Can Help A Sunburn

It’s true—because of its high water content and lycopene, a potent antioxidant, watermelon is excellent at moisturizing your skin and reducing inflammation. It can’t replace the skin-saving powers of a good sunscreen, but it is a delicious remedy for too much sun exposure. Just eat the juicy flesh, then rub the rind on your sunburn for instant relief.
